How To Write the Common App Essay Prompt 7, 2018-2019 Finally! We’ve been going through the Common App essay prompts giving you the tools and tricks you need to tackle each one (and insight into which is right for you), and we’ve finally reached our favorite of the lot â€" number seven.It shouldn’t come as a shock that we like the “anything goes” essay option. While we’ve been saying that we ignore the prompts altogether, this one is the closest to how we do things. How does it differ, you ask? While we see your point, following any prompt is different from ignoring them, even if the one you choose to follow is the most relaxed of the bunch.7. Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you've already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design. It shouldn’t come as a shock that the first sentence of this prompt is our favorite part, but then it goes downhill from there. So since the first sentence is clear, we’re going to focus on the downhill part.“It can be one you’ve already written…”Hold up here. This is a huge red flag. You will not, under any circumstances, reuse a piece of writing for your college essay. We don’t care if your teacher loved it or if it made your mom cry or if it won you a medal. If it exists already, you are not using it.This is because a good essay is not necessarily a good college admission essay. Writing an essay for school is different than marketing yourself which, when you boil the college application process down to its essence, is what you are doing. You are a product that you are trying to get someone to buy. You want them to buy into your mind, into your personality, into your scholastic prowess, into your athleticism if you’re an athlete, your musical ability if that’s your jam, your ability to paint while standing on your head if some school somewhere has a special program designed for precisely that. When you write an essay for school, it’s not about any of thisâ€"it’s about writing. The college ess ay is about writing in the sense that it is written, that it should be written well, and that all of the rules of good storytelling apply. It is not about writing in the sense that it is 100%, completely, entirely, and absolutely about you.Some people will try to modify an existing essay to fit the unique needs of a college essay. First, it could be saying that the prompt could be one of your own design. In that case, um, duh. You just said that. Secondly, it could be read as saying that the essay is “one of your own design.” If that is the case, wonderful, as we’ve been going with this second interpretation for a while now.This is our free pass, our ‘do-whatever-you-want’ card. This is where we are happy.But what do you do now?At TKG we all start out in the same place: on the hunt for something small. We work with our kids to identify the little things, the nuances, that only someone who has spent a long time with you could possibly know. This can be hard to do without guidance, but one way to start is by asking your friends to describe you. First, ask three friends for three words each. Then, once they are done, a sk for three more. The first three are generally throwaways. They tend to be generic. The second three often go deeper.The words your friends have given you aren’t a template, but they are a start. Pick out three of them that really resonate with you, and then write a mini story for each, maybe 150-300 words. Don’t write about that word and don’t describe how you are that word. In fact, don’t use the word at all in the story. If you’re running with “curiosity,” show the reader a little bit of how curiosity plays out in your life. Same for empathy, humor, bravery, kindness, or any other word you’ve decided to go with.After you’ve written the three mini-stories, pick one to expand on. If you don’t like any of them, don’t pick one just because. Go back to the drawing board. I know, it’s annoying, but it’s worth doing this thing right.Then write a first draft. Then throw out your first draft. Then write a second draft that completely ignores the limits you put on yourself with your first draft and that disregards the 650-word limit.Then, you work on it. I for one do believe that violence in video games in some ways can affect a person and their reality. I have played some of these games and have personally heard how some of these kids talk to each other while playing online. These kids are using language like grown men and are absolutely elated by the sight of blood in these games. No matter what time I am online playing you can count on hearing these kids cussing and gloating over there latest kill. I started playing these games later in life so I feel that the games don’t have as much subliminal effect on me, but these kids who grew up on â€Å"Mortal Kombat† and have evolved with these games to where they now are at risk of having a very low temperament towards their peers. The aggression that these kids show online may be an act but I tend to believe that it is only partly an act and that these kids feel invincible when in the mind frame of the character that they are controlling. â€Å"Playing violent video games like Doom, Wolfenstein 3D or Mortal Kombat can increase a person s aggressive thoughts, feelings and behavior both in laboratory settings and in actual life†. Agyepong, Fugar, and Tuuli (2010) held that HRM focuses on the management actions and decisions that affect the relationship between employees and the organization. Therefore, the model identifies the responsibilities of the line managers in accepting more duties thus ensure the organization align to its personnel policies and competitive strategy. On the other hand, the personnel have to set organizational policies to govern the activities of workers and implement strategies that entrenches a mutual reinforcement. The HR Department must behave differently by demonstrating its strategic capabilities. This will involve focusing on the employees yield instead of viewing them like variable costs (Peetz, 2012). The role of HR has changed because of different management thinking strategies. This involves partnership relationships, increased accountability, adoption of new HR strategies, and pursuing organizational changes. The growing utilization of HR information systems and increasing the significance of human capital has also transformed the working environment. Based on the scenario in the case study, the aspects of productivity and flexibility improvements were important (Kramar et al., 2015). The HR strategy in this study focuses on the decisions relating to the HR practices and policies that have become essential for managers in designing work, developing, training, selecting, motivating, and controlling employees. The Application of HRM The model ensured the new yard manager introduced changes to make the workplace environment profitable. It ensured the manager focused on employees. However, the situation before was unfortunate because the line supervisor was unwilling to acknowledge the significance of workers (Dwivedi, 2010). These absolutist supervisor demoralized workers. With the new manager, the employees felt rejuvenated because he delegated the duties. The new supervisor must be ready to assess the situation and understand the challenges the previous manager experienced regarding the practices. The last manager seemed to have been at loggerhead with the union because he mistreated workers (Charlwood, 2007). The new supervisor seems to be a positive individual who is willing welcome new opinions and ideas of other workers. The choice of this new supervisor was based on his ability and skills in understanding the union issues as explained by Peetz and Alexander (2013). Undoubtedly, the HRM is an important technique that companies have used to manage, source, and allocate the resources efficiently. Based on the scenario, the HR manager was completely working with the employees (Alami Sohaei, 2015). Since it was in the transition phase, the high performing workers during the difficult manager never matched their potentials. With the new management, the yard was becoming efficient as it acknowledged the performance of George, the union delegate. George Psaros recognized that the organization was in transition and the need for a full support was necessary. The new line manager acknowledged these efforts and delegated the duties to the employees. With the full support of George, union workers, and management, the productivity of the organization was evident. The previous manager was an autocratic person who demanded a lot from the employees. He made the situation untenable as many union workers seemed to have been fed-up and were engaging in a go-slow. This was dangerous for the organization that was popular in the region. Since the previous manager was unable to fund the infrastructural development of the organization, the big national transport group took over. The move was to help the Truck Company to reclaim its position in the market regarding the infrastructural development. Under the old manager, the organization was experiencing the worst situation as it underwent through hard time. The attitude of the manager could have never triggered performance. Peetz (2015) argues that with autocracy, the old management disregarded the divergent opinions leading to low productivity. As a result, the drivers completely avoided his opinions and directions. In fact, everyone was reluctant to change because of negative attitude that had adverse impact on the workers (Kramar et al., 2014). Without management participation, the drivers failed to contribute towards the anticipated changes. This affected the performance of the company. Sustaining the organizational philosophy and associated risks The possibility of sustaining the organizational performance after the lead manager leave could be a problem. Conversely, these managers should create organizational philosophy and strategic directions that would guide the company beyond them. Since these leaders are democratic and transactional, they embrace participatory management practices where everyone is involved in the decision-making (Alami Sohaei, 2015). Unfortunately, each manager has distinct management style. Without these two personalities, the new manager may not apply similar approach. However, given the influence of their management styles, the employees will rarely accept autocratic styles. It might be difficult to sustain the philosophy of the new yard manager and George in their absence. The blue-collar unions are small and depend on collective bargaining powers. Unfortunately, these unions are male-dominated and some of these members are rigid to changes. For instance, they always view their views as perfect and are reluctant to accept criticisms. This has already affected their membership in Australia and abroad. In most cases, the management of the unions pursues the self-interest and disregard the significance of female workers (Green, 2004). With the majority of employees in the construction industry being male-dominated, they have rarely accepted the changes. For instance, the membership can never accept female leaders thus affecting their ability to perform. To justify this argument, the current situation has seen the female trade unionists become robust thus establish white-collar unions that continues to grow (Nissen Jarley, 2005). The white-collar unionists have outnumbered the blue-collar unionists (Loosemore, Dainty, Lingard, 2003, 116). The problem wit h the blue-collar unions is the governance issues. For instance, corruption and bias actions have infiltrated the blue-collar unions thus making people to disown them. Conclusion The HRM is an essential factor in achieving organizational performance. Based on this case analysis, a participative management style is critical in an organization. The Harvard Management Model highlights the need to treat employees like assets instead of variable costs. The Truck Company has suffered in the hands of the autocratic management that could not accept divergent views. For the working environment to be conducive, the management must recognize the significance of other stakeholders. This creates a consultative working environment where everyone is involved. The most important stakeholders are the workers unions and union employees. Without considering the welfare of workers, it becomes difficult to motivate workers. Television: Destructive or Instructive? A boy sits on the floor, his eyes glued to the television screen. His mother calls him for dinner and there is no movement, he is so drawn into what he is watching that he has blocked out reality. Is this a familiar picture? This situation is becoming an all too common scene for American families. I believe television is becoming the center of too many people's lives. Television causes inactivity, promotes violence and questions morality. First of all, according to Postman, "The average American child watches 5000 hours of television before he or she ever gets to school." Television causes people to become lazy and inactive. Watching television consists of sitting on a couch and focusing on the images brought to live on the screen. Viewing television programs takes away time that could be used for physical activity. For example, take what a child's daily schedule used to consist of years ago before television was so popular. Children would spend countless hours outdoors: playing games, running, and interacting with neighborhood friends. When their mothers would call them inside for dinner or for the night, they would give the response, "Just five more minutes, please?" Nowadays, it is a struggle for parents just to get their children away from a television set and go outside for a few minutes. These children become "housebound, inactive, and solitary", according to Kael. Also, people that spend more time in front of t he television spend less time reading and doing work that needs too be done, such as homework and errands. Watching television does not make up for the time that should be spent improving reading and writing skills. Secondly, television promotes violence. Sure, some television programs have a few educational aspects; however, many are made just for the entertainment. And violence, to many, is the most entertaining feature of television. When networks see how much people enjoy viewing programs with violence and profanity, they put more of it on. Viewers exposed to this type of activity are more apt to imitating it. There have been many cases where television is blamed for violent acts. For example, Dr. Leonard Eron of the University of Illinois found that people who had watched the most violent TV between birth and age eight had committed the most serious crimes by age 30. Watching violent television programs teaches aggressive attitudes and behaviors. People become desensitized to real world violence. Because heavy viewers watch so much violent acts on television, they come to see violence as a normal and accepted way of life. People become drawn into what they are exposed to on the television s creen, and it is hard to distinguish fact from fiction. As Doerken states, "So much TV is based upon illusion and fantasy that it becomes very difficult at times to know what is truth and what is not." This is especially true for those children that have yet to learn that television is not always what it seems. Also, surprisingly, the programs that are especially designed for children, such as cartoons, are the most violent of all programming. As well as violence, profanity is also very easy to imitate. Viewers, children especially, hear all the profanity used on these programs, and think it is okay to use too. For example, many sport's figures use foul language constantly. Children see their role models using these words, and think it is cool and appropriate. Also, talk shows are filled with profanity, and there is always a talk show on in the after school hours of the day. Children are exposed to this type of behavior everywhere, and want to imitate it. Another bad aspect of television is its affect on a person's morals. Television erodes the traditional morals of American families by the poor example it sets forth for the nation's youth. Some television programs teach all the wrong lessons, and children think what they see on television are the right things to do. Television also corrupts our own personal beliefs at times. Evaluating The War in Iraq Is the war in Iraq right? Is this not a form of terrorism?, to have U.S. troops stationed in Iraq for six year now. How about pushing our system of government onto another country, isn’t that a form of terrorism? Isn’t this wrong of the US and our fellow Americans to still believe that we’re doing the right thing, when we’ve never received a straight answer as to why we’re even in another country fighting? These are all questions we should be asking, and the answer should be, that it’s morally wrong of the U.S. to be doing so. However, many of us Americans are too blind to see this, to ask these questions, and to do something powerful about it. Many seem to look at it as though, the middle east has done wrong to us, so we must do wrong to them. In addition, after the September 11th attacks, the United States government took it upon it’s self to punish those terrorist held responsible for it’s attacks. Among these people are: Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden, and anyone that represented the Al-Quaeda organization. Nevertheless after searching out these terrorist, we took them into our country, into our prison systems, and into our courts to hold justifications over their heads. Each one dying for the terror they imprinted into our once great nation. However is this really morally right? To take away life?, I don’t believe so, but our government and many others do. This is not a justification for any action. Consequently, after finding and executing all of our said terrorist, it wasn’t enough. The U.S. took it upon it’s self to begin an unexplained war with the middle east on March 19th, 2003. And what is the reason for this? Honestly there is no true reason for this. The U.S. has been given so many reasons that the government tried to justify and that us, Americans bought into. For instance, at first we went to Iraq to find WMD’s. However there was no proof of this only suspicion. And after said invasion, there was still no evidence of WMD’s. So, moving forward, the U.S. quickly kept troops stationed in Iraq for a second reason. Which accordingly, the number of terrorist were growing. Namely they have grown and still remain at large. Finally, there were more foolish reasons about oil and other nonsense that could not reach any justification.

This proposal even in its early stages of formulation considers head on the factors that may affect the introduction of its proposed curriculu m. Given the ample time of research that was given to formulate the proposal, there are three main factors identified to be internal to ABC Institution- integrity, resource preparedness and foundational education.ABC Institution is laden with the burden that it needs to establish its integrity among its students, targeted hiring field and even among its stakeholders (Gardiner, 2010, p. n. pag. ). These different groups should be satisfied with the overall manner by which ABC Institution provides the programs of study under its newly introduced curriculum. Resource preparedness is also vital to the success of the introduction of the new curriculum because the preparations put on by ABC Institution will insure that the curriculum will not be down played in terms of its manpower and educating credibility (Gardiner, 2010, p.n. pag. ). Faculty members and other staffs of ABC should be prepared in all aspects, particularly in terms of being knowledgeable of the programs to be included in the curriculum, furthermore to the curriculum itself. Departmental turf should also be taken into consideration since the curriculum of management and administration is multidisciplinary in nature (Gardiner, 2010, p. n. pag. ). Faculty members should also be allowed to freely express their insights and criticisms on the newly introduced curriculum.The faculty members are those who would have firsthand interaction with the curriculum and its students; this made them credible sources of new ways of further improving the curriculum upon its introduction. Ultimately, the faculty members should be constantly reminded to handle the programs of study included in the curriculum with the consciousness that the lessons and activities should coincide with the mission of ABC Institution and with the goals of introducing the curriculum (Gardiner, 2010, p. n. pag. ).Finally, the foundations of educating its students under the new curriculum should be constantly assessed and evaluated to insure th at educational drifts are being avoided by providing constantly improving modes of education. The foundations that the curriculum will be able to establish in its early years will determine its future as a part of ABC Institution and establishing a good one should be prioritized (Gardiner, 2010, p. n. pag. ). In this proposal there is only one discerned external factor- the in demand labor market.No matter how fluent this proposal maybe in justifying that the establishment of a new curriculum on management and administration is viable will be put to trash unless it will have an established target in the labor demand market. As a hint in the earlier parts, the new curriculum on management and administration is proposed to be introduced to educate and train students to be professionals viable to fill one of the most in demand professions- government managers (Kadlec, 2009, p. 11). This is a labor market that is deemed to be in constant hiring for the next three decades.This demand is neither artificial nor temporary; it is a demand made by one of the most financially influencing event of all times- the global recession. The global recession has increased the demand for government managers because it forced many companies to sought help and assistance from the governments all around the world (Kadlec, 2009, p. n. pag. ). New professions are being created everyday just to manage corporate bail outs and turnovers facilitated by governments; in this aspect alone thousands of available jobs are being created.Aside from this aspect of the global recession; professions on human resources and public affairs are almost equally opening up due to the sudden involvement of many governments with the corporate affairs. This is the major labor market that the curriculum if management and administration seeks to fill in by creating the fittest professionals for the job through the programs of study that ABC Institution offers. The high demand to fill in the slots of government managers is only one of the target industries of this new curriculum.The ongoing demand for financial analysts and market experts are also some of the in demand jobs that this curriculum seeks to fill in (Kadlec, 2009, p. n. pag. ). After presenting every detail of this proposal for the ABC Institution, the one that proposed it realized one thing; there is a huge and almost untapped market of labor demands that ABC Institution can pioneer on†¦so why hesitate?
